Bernie became interested in the regalia and culture of the First Americans at age eight while in the Cub Scouts. His interest in Native Americans accelerated after reading Black Elk Speaks in the 70's.
Spending summers riding horses and working out of a tipi in the West Elks Mountains presented a new way to look at how our world looks from nature's side. This new insight had a strong effect on Bernie. He began to see all things as sacred.
Bernie works to present that sacred side through his creative efforts.
Bernie's Sacred Pipes can be found in more collections than any other metalwork that he's put together.
Bernie welcomes custom orders on his metal pieces.

In 1986 Bernie was invited into the Colorado Indian Market as a new featured artist. This was his introduction to full time working at and pursuing the business of art.
Bernie has been well received by the public. His work can be found in private collections around the United States and in Europe.
A third generation metal worker, Bernie enjoys working with copper and steel creating one-of a-kind pieces unique to his hand.
In 1990 Bernie began painting.
The artist felt the need to present a way to balance the feel of the metal. Oil Paints gave the flow and balance to his work he was looking for. In January 1992 Bernie exhibited his first solo show in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
In 2005 Bernie began putting to print stories from his life experiences and times.
"People of the Yampa" is a story that begins from the first days of the first inhababitants of the Yampa, to their last free days in 1879.
